can't sleep, don't want to drink.

I'm having trouble sleeping which is a major trigger for me. I could justmrun and get some booze but Id rather not fail my sobriety again. I'll be back on here if I can't sleep soon.

It is still fairly early in Illinois, why don't you try watching a movie or something?

A book helps put a lot of people to sleep.

I sometimes turn the lights out and put my laptop on my belly, sit in nthe dark and watch this video of waves in Hawaii. It helps to relax

Stay in the fight, put your boot on the neck of that trigger, craving etc.... and keep pushing your boot into it's neck, don't let it up off the floor..... and remember step 1..... as for me I admitted I am powerless over alcohol - my life becomes unmanageable as soon as my hand reaches for the bottle...... alcohol leaves me powerless to live my life so that I can be the best me that I can be....... I turn on relaxing music or the sound of the ocean, nature, or a campfire on my Kindle/computer. I also picked up the habit of reading before I go to bed. Establishing some type of pattern was key for me....also cutting back on caffeine...I try none after 3pm in the afternoon. This will get better....stay strong!!

The trick to falling asleep is trying to remain awake.

It is one clique that actually works.

I'm on day 3 and the first two nights (0 and 1) I slept an hour in total, was so tired yesterday, however last night I actually had a good sleep!

Give your body some time to heal, I hope you get some rest soon.

Happy to report I didn't drink and eventually got a good chunk of sleep. I ended up just toughing it out. I have a hard time sleeping as it is, and being away from home (house sitting) makes it harder. They have this damn bird here, some kind of parrot that wakes me up early every morning. I have to wear earplugs even when I sleep at home, so this is torture for me. I hate that bird. I would be sleeping right now if the thing would shut up. Hence, why I was in bed at 9PM...and asleep by roughly 1 am.

Thanks for the help folks.

I would be feeling like hell today had I drank to pass out lastnight. I would be physically ill and full of guilt and shame...

I hate that bird...lol

Good for you Serotonin! Today is the beginning of day 3 for me and the last 2 nights were not great sleep wise. I look forward to some real sleep!

utube has relaxation music, XA-Speakers - The lights are on! has speakers on tapes

I would lay as still as possible to rest my body and listen to my mp3 on my phone with one of the above to quiet my mind

it worked until my body could learn to sleep normally again
