A request from an SR friend to a friend in battle
I read each and every one of your stories.........please forgive me if i'm not following on or giving support to the last thread. I've been hanging around here for a while now.......I value SR so much, not just for the sobriety talks, although obviously the main focus, but it's kind of like a place to off load. I challenge anyone to say they've never had a bad day or a day they want to vent. Sometimes partners/family bear the brunt...........or if you're single like me then a walk along the beach bears the brunt.......(sometimes my neighbours too when I try to practice my violin really badly!).
This is starting to become a bit too narrative and i've done that so many times before and so, i've done a cut n paste of what I wrote to someone earlier tonight:
Tomorrow morning i'm going to visit a friend ( ex college) he's young, got married last year, then back from honeymoon diagnosed with the nasty C. He's had loads of treatment. Tomorrow they're discharging him for palliative care. Ive spoken w him tonight via FB.......He's a pt in the hosp I work in so have 'out of hours' visiting privileges. In Oz everyone has a little 'jacket' that wraps around their beer known as a "stubby cooler" or "stubby holder"...........there are many more terms. I have one, a Scottish version......ie.......it won't hold anything cold cause it's got no bottom.......noting up it's Kilt!!! He obv can't drink but i'm racing my brain tonight to think of the best drink I can buy to wrap my little tartan kilt around. All suggestions welcome.
If you're still awake from reading this, thank you. If you are religious, I ask that you pray for the friend of LP.
Thank you all.

I can't think of any drink that will surpass the gift of friendship that you are giving to him, LP. No matter what you decide to wrap with the kilt, your friend will appreciate it. Sending prayers out to you and your friend.

Thanks for your prayers. He was in good form, although a little gutted as the last bit of hair he had, that he was going to show me had washed off in the shower about two hours before I arrived
I found a solution to the Kilt stubby holder thingy...........a pineapple! Unfortunately, he's not allowed to eat it or even touch me but his wife and I shared hugs and laughs about the Scottish pineapple for all three of us.

I am sure he really appreciated your support (and creativity ), and his wife sounds so glad that you were there. It's a wonderful thing to be sober and present for the people in your life, its amazing that our sobriety causes such uplifting ripples.
Edit: just saw the pic…you are brilliant!
