Shot to the heart...
Shot to the heart...
Was standing in line at the post office today, nearly 40 minutes wait with my two boys. I was so lucky, they were being sweet and not fighting like they often do when bored. I had just picked them up from school so we passed the time telling each other about our days, then my Charlie noticed the song on the radio that was from the Charlie Brown Christmas movie wa'd watched together the night before. When we approached the front of the line, the middle-aged woman in front if us turned to me and said, "I just want you to know you are a wonderful mother." I just looked at her, stunned. Then I nearly burst into tears thinking about how I've ruined everything. Then I thought, "actually, I mother like this most of the time, in spite of my issues." I am very loving and attentive. And I felt like maybe hope and redemption were just around the corner...
Sometimes it takes an objective observer to see something
we can't see at the time. We focus on our faults instead of
the many things we do right.
Enjoy the compliment, and work on seeing all the facets of its truth.
Happy Holidays!
