AA question

I was wondering if u can just pop in to a meeting anywhere or do they require you to sign up? Call ahead? How does that work? I was going to try one out this morning but was too pooped after a 7 mile trail run :0

The only requirement is a desire to stop drinking. You can pretty much pop in, except in some places there are women only meetings, men only, gay etc. You can find your local meetings through this website: Alcoholics Anonymous : Local Resources that provide A.A. Meeting Information (U.S./Canada)

Great avatar, & welcome to SR!

I'm a popper. Don't belong to any group but go maybe once a week. Usually spontaneous when I do.

You don't have to sign up or call ahead. Just find a meeting and go.

Here is a link on what to expect at your first AA meeting. I hope it answers some of your questions Your First AA Meeting. Understandably, You Want to Know What to Expect.

It's stated that the only requirement fro membership is a desire to stop drinking. You don't even have to say your first name or speak at a meeting, saying I'll pass is enough. In the very beginning I suggest to newcomers to go to speaker meetings and /or discussion meetings until they get used to the lingo.
I needed to open up and say hello to help me get out of my shell and recognize we are there for the same reason.

BE WELL

I only went to my first one last week and I think it would be fun to "pop" into different ones!! If all the meetings are as nice as my first one, there are sooooo many amazing people in recovery! Just look at us! Lol

Oh yes, you can definitely just pop into meetings. I learnt this from soap operas. Hope you get to make a meeting soon!
