Focusing on the journey, not the destination
Focusing on the journey, not the destination
I thought i would post this to all the others like me, who are in the first days of sobriety. Wondering how good it will feel when the days turn into weeks and the weeks into months and so forth. How wonderful it will feel to say, I haven't had a drink in a year now!
Instead let us focus on how good it feels to say, I haven't had a drink today!!
For me, while the destination is without a doubt, Sober Town, I am going to enjoy the journey there, taken in baby steps, just one day at a time. Taking pride and joy in all the changes i can see happening, the health improvements, the relationships strengthening, motivation, inner peace.
As the sober train stops at each station on the way, i will dump off some baggage and leave it there forever. I have already left a bag full of dry heaves, shame, headaches and morning after apologies
Let us make the journey there, difficult thought it may be at times, full of hope and happiness about who we are becoming.
Have a great alcohol free day all!!

apophylite...wonderful post, i couldn't agree more.
i need to drop a few things off at the station today! the conductor yells at me, "you just dropped this bag off a few days ago!" i respond, "i know, for some darn reason i keep coming back by to pick it up..."
thanks again for the awesome reminder....

Beautifully put, apophylite A very good reminder for us to be mindful and live in the 'Now'.
I also love the idea of dumping bags of dry heaves and headaches as we progress! Excellent!

I agree with what you are saying. Sometimes we are in such a rush to get to one month, three months, one year, five years sober that we forget about today and how great is is that we awake without a hangover and feeling so positive about ourselves. Let's all enjoy the sobriety trip no matter how far along it we are.
