Getting your brain checked by a neurologist

Have any of you had your brains checked by a neurologist? I would like to know what damage I have done to my brain, to inspire me to stay sober. I'm 6 days today xxxxx

Thats pretty expensive Rebecca.

Up to you of course, but I reckon wait a month or two - you might find that things are a lot better brain wise

I have, but nothing was mentioned to me. The mental health diagnosis I had, they had to rule out things like tumour and epilepsy. Which they did with a few tests. It was about 4 years ago, which was before I used to get withdrawals but had been a heavy drinker for some time and I was on a lot of medication.

Now though, even though my binges are worse, I have a lot more sober days and I'm medication free. I've no doubt booze has had a toll on my brain. Don't need the scan to prove it.

Google wernicke-korsakoff syndrome if ya need some scaring!
But well done on day 6!

Hopefully there is no damage but don't let that be a reason to drink again

Congrats on 6 days

rebecca, i never concerned about neuro trauma to my brain from drinking. most commonly most alcoholics need to worry about liver damage. they say we cannot give medial advice, but there is nothing wrong with you doing research on your own through reliable sources and places and then clarify them with your doctor.

I never have, but I always like to remind myself with this image from an NIH study of where I could end up if I continued. The image compares a normal brain with brains from an Alzheimer's patient and an alcoholic.

I'd be afraid that if they found nothing wrong, I would use it to conclude I wasn't that bad off which might lead back down that hole...
