Saying 'NO' quickly worked for me tonight

Wowza...day 7 today.

Sitting in work today and get a phone call from a friend offering me 2 free tickets to a live staged interview with one of my favourite scriptwriters who is in town for one night only. Here's how my thought process went:

11.30am - tickets offered...yey...ok who to invite????

12pm - still deciding which friend to invite....most of my friends are also my drinking buddies and I didn't want to drink tonight.

1pm - decided which friend to invite...the one who would a) enjoy the event but also b) is not a heavy drinker, never has been and never will be.

7pm - arrive at the venue first and see a few friends.

7.05pm - 7.30pm ...Can I buy you a drink? No thanks I said very quickly to various friends. I realise that the less time I take to answer that question the more time I have to think about the consequences of having a drink.

7.45pm - 10.30pm ...I enjoy the show and the interval (drinking water as was my companion)

11pm - arrive home sober and check in with SR...

Although I am now eating apple pie with ice - cream....I'll be sober and weighty...oh well...I'm feeling good and loving it...

As always thank you SR and good luck to everyone on their own journey xxx

Great job saying no and being strong. I have yet to go to an event where there will is alcohol but for my job the situation will present itself sooner than later. I will remember your story when that time comes

Saying 'no' gets easier as time goes on. I'm glad you had a good time sober.

Good on you. Saying "no" isn't as problematic as we think it will be. I've found that almost no one in this day and age really cares if we drink or not.

It is a great success to go out and enjoy something that you really care about without involving alcohol.

Thinking about the event while enjoying that pie and Ice cream, so full of win! I'm happy FOR you.
