Six months today
Six months today
Well, it's 180 days or six months sober for me today. Even amidst a visit to my parents for the holiday weekend where the beer fridge is always fully stocked. Looks like a large number of double and triple digit anniversaries by others this weekend too, congrats to all of you. It's a testament to the power of SR to be sure.
For all those who have recently quit or are trying now, listen to the advice you get here. It really does work if you let it!

Congratulations, that is awesome! All posts of achieving months of sobriety give me so much strength and hope.
Let me ask a question because I think I already know the answer and it will be helpful for all the newly sober people.
You made mention of the fridge being fully stocked. You are still mindful of it but you know you're not going there. If this were days 1 through 7 for you or even days 31 through 37 is it a different mindset? My point is I think some encouragement that it's still work but it does get easier would be helpful to me as well as others.
Thank you for your post and again, 6 months is fantastic!!!!!

Thanks LadyBlue, and congras to you as well. I still feel like a newcomer to sobriety to be frank, so that's a good question. I don't have a concrete answer as to why the temptation is less now than say on day 5, but it does get easier to resist the temptation for sure. My mindset is that I know I'm going to be around alcohol at times, so I have to learn to resist as I can't eliminate it 100 percent.
Congrats, Scott! You really helped me out five months ago when I was first trying this sober experiment and you were there with encouragement and advice. It was truly appreciated as you were only a month or so in and told me what to expect along the way.
Thank you for that.
And awesome accomplishment and here's to many, many more!

Thanks Duane, another great question too. My life has changed in many ways. The obvious of course ( no more hangovers, lots more time for family and life in general ). I think I've also crossed the bridge of worrying about/missing out on the people and activities from my drinking days. Or at least I recognize them for what they really are and have no problem without them in my life. I still have some anxiety but its far better than it was 6 months ago.

Congratulations Scott! I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your wisdom here at SR...because I really, really do. Your responses to others are encouraging and direct. You ooze common sense..and well, I could actually gush here.
It's sobriety like yours that helps me with mine. Thank you.
