Here goes nothing...
After a long time trying and failing to quit on my own, I'm hoping these forums will help.
2 days sober now after a pretty epic bender.
I've gone weeks at a time without drinking, but when I least expect it ill find myself drunk at a bar (having just left the house to get lunch).
Good times. Until they aren't anymore. And that point has come and gone.
Anyways, I'm Pat.

Hello, and welcome.
The good times came and went for me, too. I spent years chasing that first buzz alcohol gave me when it was fun.Well, fun turned into desperation. I went to chasing that first drink so I could get rid of the hangover. This led to every day drinking and a load of misery.
This cycle continued for years. I like to say I went to a party and didn't leave for twenty five years.
Glad you're here, you'll find lots of support and people staying sober in different ways.
Just remeber, you never have to take that first drink again. I never had one drink in my life and never intend to. Without the first, there won't be a tenth.

Welcome Pat,
Just remember, have a plan, after the initial emotion of stopping wears off, you will be left with the rest of your life. That is a lot a free time my friend, AV will be ready to fill it for you if you are not prepared. Good luck and take care
