The prob as alkis is that we are allergic to alcohol so we can NEVER drink successfully again. You're exactly where I was round 3 yrs ago but I'd never heard of recovery let alone AA. If we can save you yrs of misery including arrests, incarcerations, probation, fees, fines etc the list honestly is endless, then you search your heart as honestly as you can & decide. Btw, there's nthg to be ashamed about if u're an alcoholic!! You live happier & function better in society

If you want to get sober, stop drinking. Simple but not easy. Distract yourself when you get cravings. Don't buy any alcohol. Don't go to places where there will be drinking. And yes, you've got to want to be sober more than you want to drink.
