I am a huge fan. Addict and sober, he is one of my favorite guys....and that is coming from a 39 year old woman....I grew up with him, he reminds me of the songs my dad would/does sing. Good man, with problems. My dad went cold turkey from beer/drinking when I was 9, he is a man that would give everythimg he had (my dad), he decided one day, he just didnt' like how he felt after drinking....I remember it very well. My mom wasn't so excited about it. She continued to drink, it wasn't pretty...she had 3 DUI's by the time I was old enough to drive the car home from her last one. She was an ugly drunk. Mean.
I spent alot of nights as a kid, hiding from her in closets.
I have never been that type of mom, I always tell my girls how much I love them, every single day, without fail. Including my teenager who justs says, YA mom....but she knows.....and she is a good girl. She and I are good.
I'm reflecting a bit tonight. She turns 16 next month. On my 16th I came home from a track meet from out of town..the bus dropped us off. I got a ride home, to lots of cars at my house...my best friend had died in a drunk driving accident...
My mom didn't stop drinking til I was adult, then sudddenly she turned it around and stopped at around 50...I felt cheated.
I don't know why this is all coming out now, but thank you for being here. I'm listening to George Jones tonight and shedding some tears...

Wow, what a painful story. But also a really hopeful one! I'm sorry for everything you went through growing up. I think it's really beautiful how you're building relationships with your children that won't be damaged by alcohol. That takes a lot of strength.
