60 Days Today!
60 Days Today!
Today is my 60 day anniversary of no alcohol! I feel better than I've ever felt. It's been fantastic seeing all the improvements happening over the last 2 months, i.e. losing weight, clearer skin, no more face puff, looking younger, and feeling very grounded and at peace. Yesterday I met an old friend for lunch and she commented several times about how young, healthy and happy I was. (That's always welcoming to hear at the age of 45.) It's funny that when I tell people that I completely cut out alcohol, they just assume I'm getting extremely healthy with my diet. None of my friends/family ever saw me as an alcoholic, as I'm single and live alone, so I hid it well and only drank in excess in private, never was a big public drinker. The responses from my friends have been overwhelmingly supportive and almost envious, kind of like they wish they could omit it as well. With that said, I'm absolutely excited to hit the 60 day mark and looking forward to a very bright and healthy future continuing on this sober path. Abstinence is the only way for me and I'm perfectly happy with that. I actually really enjoy telling people, with a strong confidence and smile, "No thanks, I don't drink."
Thank you SR peeps, I love you all.

PS. You and I share quite a few things in common: I am 42 and a little... vain... so when i quit drinking, the physical benefits sure were a good motivation... Just like you, it was alone that I did my worst drinking... Anyway, congratulations Snwflower!!! To our new life chapters!
Thanks deadlydame! We do indeed share similarities. The vain part is actually what saved me from continuing on in destroying my health with alcohol. I got so tired of seeing how haggard I looked on the outside and I never realized how bad it had become until then. As the outside improves, I know it's a good indication that the inside and emotions are improving too, which of course is the most important. It's the only wake-up call that worked for me, before then, I was in complete denial.
Congratulations to you as well! So glad to be sharing this journey in our new chapters with each other here on SR! Rock on sister!

Snwflower and Deadlydame, I am right there with you! I am also 42 and the drinking was really starting to take a toll on how I looked. The bloating was all over, and I just felt like my face almost looked distorted! I actually can handle looking in the mirror these days!
Like you Sunflower, my drinking was my "secret", so I am sure most people assume I am just exercising and losing weight.
Anyway, congratulations...so happy to know others are enjoying the same benefits as I am!

Yes, Forabetterlife, I too thought my face looked distorted. Lol. Am so glad it's finally back to normal. No-one ever *really* tells us about all of the body's reactions to alcohol, especially all of the crazy advertising. It's soooo opposite of reality. The on-line alcohol mirror really is a good eye opener. (The one where you put in your picture and it ages you in ten years with and without alcohol consumption. The one with alcohol is ghastly.)
Thank you for the support and congrats on reaping the benefits of your clean/healthy life as well.
