I think that the counting is going to become a problem for me. I am a little (ok - more than a little) OCD. The numbers started to mean something more than the sobriety. I need to focus on the sobriety first, the numbers second. I am very thankful that I work up today sober and have a day planned that will keep me from falling into my old NYD habit of hitting the bar to watch football. I am going to do this!
Everyone has conflicting desires, and addiction is sort of the ultimate conflict. We drink (or drug) when part of us doesn't want to, against our better judgment, in spite of whatever destruction it is wreaking in our lives, even when we have decided we are never going to do it again. That is the definition of addiction! That is what makes it so insidious!
Mittens, don't give up and don't judge yourself! Most people struggle in the beginning but it will get much easier with time!
Just look at Robert Downey JR, how many times he wound up in rehab, and where he is today! And I'm not breaking his anonymity bec I have no idea whether he is in 12-step, but he struggled with alcohol and addiction for years and finally made it, he is always a big inspiration to me.
Never doubted it! If you were going to real relapse you would not have been able to go back to two days of sobriety!!!
That is why I am Happy to say
CONGRATULATIONS ON DAY 15!! YEAH MITTENS WAY TO GO!!
Beat wishes --you should be very proud of yourself
