So glad I stopped

I was in the subway this morning and a man next to me absolutely reeked of alcohol. It really revolted me. Not on any moral or judgmental grounds (I'm no one to judge), but simply physiologically. I thought I was going to be ill. It brought back all the memories of how I was once that guy.

I am so so glad I made the decision to quit last year. To those who don't think they will everbe able to stop, believe me, if I can you can. I've rarely come across anyone who drank as heavily as I did and had the withdrawls that I did. I can tell you that when people say "it gets better" that they are not spouting a bunch of hooey. It does. Sometimes slowly, sometimes fast. I find that I'm learning stuff about myself I never gave myself the chance to see, and some of it is good. Not every day is great, some days suck. But I wake up able to deal with life. I don't wake up wanting to die any more.

I never thought for a second that there was hope or that there was a point to getting sobre. I am so glad that I gave myself a chance.

Give your self a chance. You deserve it.

I live in Toronto too and a year ago that guy reeking of booze on the subway would have been me. One time I had to dash off at the wrong stop to vomit in the garbage can at 8:30 in the morning.
