Which is harder ?
I have never been hooked on opiates so I can't comment, but alcohol was/is tough fir me because it's everywhere. People even cook with it! I read that sugar was the most addictive substance on the planet, though!
Good luck with your journey.

I have no experience with opiates either.
I suspect it's a very subjective answer for everyone tho?
One thing that I do think can be said tho is no matter what your drug of choice, most of us find it gets harder and harder to quit as the years go on.

As Dee said, it's probably different for everyone, because of their effects on our minds and bodies, accessability (and related triggers). From my own experience and that of other recovering addicts I have spoken to, the physical withdrawal from opiates tends to be experienced for a longer time and in more physically unpleasant ways.
hiya,, well i have exp on both,, and a lot more,, that i wont divulge lol
i was addicted to heroin, bout 12 yrs ago,, for bout 2 yrs,, i personally found it easier to get off, the detox programme was good here in uk anyhoo,, got clean real quick, my gp was fab, and moved away to start fresh.
then after 6 wks or so,,, got lonely, hubby was working nites,,, started drinking,,, ahh and 10 yrs on,,, down a very slippery path,,, now sober well 32 days in,, after many attempts,,, and feel fab.
but for me,, booze is harder,, cos you can get it everywhere, its more socially acceptable than class a drugs,, evryone does it,, its harder to stay off, as you dont have to go to dunk holes to score it,, its a lot cheaper,, and like i said a lot easier to get,, even in petrol staions fgs xxx
so,, thats my two ps worth,,, hope it helps anyone ,, but its only MY exp remember,, im not competeing ,, merely saying xx
lv cleo xxx
ps ,, never been sddicted to shopping tho,, much to my hubbys releif lol

Thanks everyone. All so true.
I gave up alchohol 4 years ago, and it was very very tough.
And I guess opiates are no different. Its getting into that mindset where we just have to change our thinking and our lives to beat these mind sapping addictions

I would say alcohol, only for the fact that it's consumed everywhere, at every social function, by almost everyone, almost constantly and , one is made to feel odd, different or peculiar, or that something is wrong with you if you don't drink!!!!. That said, both are hard to come off, but I would imagine alcohol easier because of the utter debilitating effects of alcohol, I.e. "never again" and the terrible chaos it ensues on family and relationships.
