I'm new here :)
Hi everyone. I found these forums a few nights ago but I haven't introduced myself yet... but I think I'm going to stick around, so thought I'd do so. My name is Alicia. I'm 26 years old and aaalmost 100 days clean and sober... I entered treatment on August 23rd of this year and haven't looked back. Ok, ok, I've looked back, but I'm still here fighting this thing. I've been a heroin addict since August of 2010, but before that, I was just addicted to being high. I've used regularly since I was 18, all kinds of different substances, so this totally clean and sober thing is very, very new.
I've got four children between the ages of 6 and almost 2, and will be married for seven years in February... we've been together for more than 12 years, since I was 14. My addiction took everything from me, including my children. They were removed from my home in May of this year, and are now living with my sister-in-law. My husband and I are separated, leaning toward ending things completely. So for the first time in my life, I'm on my own, standing on my own two feet, and it's pretty scary.
I regularly attend 12-step meetings and have an incredible support system, which is unbelievable... I've never had so many true, real friends in my life. I live with four other people who are all also in recovery, which is a huge blessing. I don't think I could be on my own right now.
I look forward to getting to know everyone here, I used to post on parenting message boards all the time but I think these are more appropriate considering what I'm going through right now.

I am a heroin addict / alcoholic. I have 5 years free of alcohol but the heroin and other opiates totally brought me to my knees. 5 days today after many relapses. I think it's awesome that you have some sober time and you're posting here. I really hope you come back again!

Welcome & congratz on you journey & 100 days! Having that all important 'support system' is key to your journey...don't be afraid to use that support and you may find yourself helping others and you don't even realize it! Keep strong Alicia!!
