First day of recovery after 2 yr relapse

I was off of alcohol for 8 months before I started taking opiates 2 years ago as a way to get my mind off of not having alcohol in my life. Now, I want to have a baby and refuse to be on anything during that process... and hopefully after. The place I went to wanted me originally to do hospital detox, but the doctor agree to give me about 7 prescriptions and allow me to try it on my own at home with my husband.

Today is day 1. Previously, by day 2, my withdrawals were really bad when I tried to quit cold turkey so I'm looking for a place when I'm not at meetings. I just started the medical detox regimen about an hour and a half ago.

Thanks

HAHA... Is this place usually this inactive, or did moving my post just screw things up?

Hi and welcome
I generally go to the new posts section when I log on, so I usually miss alot of posts.
Good luck with your detox. I had mine in hospital... was there for a month. Hopefully, medical detox will be safer for you. Try and make sure someone is around you for the first few days... just in case

Welcome Kriss! Congratulations on your decision. I know you'll find this place a huge help as you go through your detox. For one thing, it keeps you busy and helps with anxiety.

Keep reading and posting - let us know how you're feeling. I'm glad you've decided to be free.

Cheering you on, Kris. I'm back on day 1 after sobering up from alcohol. We are in good company. :-)
You can do it!

Welcome, KW! You'll find lots of us here in the same boat with you. I loved getting drunk but I love not being hung over even more! It might be hard but you can do it. There's not only life after and without booze...IT'S A LOT BETTER!

Thank you everyone... Yesterday was actually alright but today I felt pretty lousy... I'm hoping it gets better from here.

No matter what though, this drug cocktail makes it a LOT easier than previous withdrawal. In the past, it was horrible with nausea, chills, hot flashes, restless leg syndrome, insomnia, anxiety and terrible sweating.

Last night, I had no trouble with RLS which shocked me... I think I may experience more as I drop down from 150mg/dose tramadol down to 100mg/dose tramadol but we will see. Previously, this and lack of sleep were intolerable.

Today, I just have a horrible headache, very little appetite and feel lethargic (possibly from the other meds I'm on)

Anyway, thank you for your support everyone. I gave my husband the rest of my supply to hide just in case I needed it until this is over... but I'm positive he wouldn't give it to me anyway. Haven't had my DOC in just shy of 2 days.

Welcome Kriss

I have only been here for a couple of weeks, but have found it extremely useful. There are lots of knowledgeable and caring people on SR who are always ready to offer support. I have spent way too much time reading posts here in the last couple of weeks .

Good luck in your recovery and keep posting.

Thinking about you tonight, and hope you are feeling better than when you posted earlier. It is great that your husband is so supportive. Hang in there!

First day I'm feeling a bit better after nearly 5 days... but also decreasing dose of tramadol... and hoping that after day 7, I won't have any more physical symptoms of withdrawal.

Thanks everyone.
