They know not what they do....

I am at work and feeling productive. Been a great week with a clear head and getting thing done.

I get a text.... Zzzzzzz the phone vibrates loudly on the desk.

It's the bartender from the bar across the street announcing a big end of summer party tomorrow night at the outside bar with lots of people and give aways.

I called my partner and told him.

We made plans to go out after we both get home to dinner. Then go get some shoes he needs. Then head to a meeting. Then go for ice cream.

People will always be there to ask these things. They don't know or understand.

It is and always will be my responsibility to myself to protect me.

Would I love a lazy evening at home? Sure who wouldn't. But when things are ripe..... Pay day.... Not been around people in a while....opportunity...idol hands...I need to take actions.

So we will be out and about. I will check in here to keep things right.

Thanks for being there for me.

Ken

I don't have that option... But funny you say that. I thought last night I need to ask for it on my phone.

My drug dealer must be getting antsy. Be good to block him.

I will call later to get the option.

Thanks

Don't let your curiosity get the best of you and romanticize how the evening could turn out.

Be realistic. It's a slippery slope. Toolbox full of tools, including the option to block the people who are best not present for this journey u are on.

Take care of you, we will be here to helps along! Best of luck weasel!

Yeh , old drunk Ken would have had a fit about this , poor guy didn't know what he was up against with that addiction .

the learned and improved Ken now will cope with this admirably .

I don't have that option...
the learned and improved Ken will know that if he wants something to help protect his sobriety nothing will stop him from getting it , even if it means ditching the phone in Bryant park fountain .

Bestwishes, M

They are probably missing you at the bar. Probably wanting all the fun people to be at the party. If you can go and remain sober, it would be nice to see your old friends. If you think it will send you right back into mode where AV is in control avoid at all costs. Blocking dealer's number for future would probably be a very good idea. You're right, these situations will come up again and again. Only we can make the decision to experience them sober, or avoid them to stay sober. You can make the call that's best for you!!

I already made my decision. I made plans because I know myself.

When the time comes I will want it. What addict wouldn't. But this addict knows that the perfect storm of money, time, opportunity... They are not my friends.

Yes M the old ken would have not said anything here. Not told J and waited until the moment with anticipation to convince him to go over with me.

I am too tired for that. I need my life back.

Rename any bars or dealers etc. as "The Devil".... its funny & awakening to see a text saying.

"The Devil ~ Want to come to our party tomorrow, everyones going to be there & its going to be hot"

Cheers ~ NB

Just an update that the party the bartender text me about is starting. I feel nothing. No compulsion to go. I made my choice yesterday and that helps. I feel relief I dont have to rethink it today.

So had dinner and heading for a walk. And yes... have to sneak in ice cream as a reward for treating myself right!

Will be around SR later!

Very proud of the decision you made, Ken. I had many temptations the first few months I was sober, but the intensity of them grew less and less. Glad you came here to talk about what happened.
