Excuses

If I start drinking now I will be able to get to sleep before midnight and be ready to stop drinking tomorrow.

Why would you come here to say that?...There must be some part of you that knows it's a bad idea....How about you don't have one today...And tomorrow you do what you want?

Kza - better yet, why not try exercising to tire yourself out? Melatonin works wonders, as well, to encourage sleep and it's non-addictive. Surely there is a Walgreens or CVS nearby that's still open.

Nope. You will be hung-over tomorrow. That's no way to start stopping!

I've had drinks to "help me sleep" too, and woken up feeling worse than if I hadn't slept at all. It won't help, Kza. You know this. You know it's just an "excuse" to drink. And, for what it's worth, I've done the "I'll have this, and then quit tomorrow" schtik for YEARS. Having a drink doesn't help you quit.

SFMS is right - post instead. Heck, do ANYTHING instead!

(hug)!

You'll be no more ready to stop tomorrow than you are today. Nothing will be different except you'll be hungover. Don't drink... do as the others have suggested - tire yourself out and sleep properly rather than pass out. And if you can't sleep, read or do something to relax, take a hot bubble bath etc. Have you ever tried meditation?

And then what will you do tomorrow to sleep? Play the tape through.. pour it out, jump in chat, call AA.. hit a meeting. Anything but drink.

I have taken one and a half cold medication pills. I have been on anti depressants off and on over the years but could only take them when I wasn't drinking.

I had loads of 'bright' ideas like that.
Please see your Dr if you're having trouble sleeping Kza.

What are you doing for your recovery?

Me too. I'm Eastbourne... bang goes my anonimity! Haha! I don't care. I don't type anything here that my nearest and dearest don't already know! Shameless is on TV at the moment, I don't recommend that as a lighthearted watch for now! I'm going to watch Newsnight in a minute to 'really' cheer me up! I get insomnia too, forcing sleep will just p*ss you off, it does me anyway. I sleep when I sleep. I no longer wake up with a hangover though, I'm grateful for that x

that's a great attitude to have Zee. normal sleep returns. it takes time and patience. patience (ironically) takes time for the alcoholic to learn but when you get it, it's a great gift.
