Another Sober Victory

As some of you know, I fell off the wagon after about 4.5 months of sobriety .... much frustration with alcoholic husband, who I kicked out of the house about a week ago and told him to take some time to figure out who he wanted more: his booze/bar buddies or his family.

Anyway, that's not the point of this post, though ... I'm sober again for a week now and feeling good. Today I took my youngest (also autistic) to the county fair for the horse show. He was invited to participate this year because he has made so much progress over the past few months of riding and is able to handle much more in the way of stimuli than he used to be.

Well ... today he got a blue ribbon for his riding! If I wasn't sober and able to wake up at 6 a.m. with a clear head and get him there by 8 a.m. today, it probably wouldn't have happened. It is so wonderful to be able to be here for my children and be a part of their individual victories. Although my horrible drinking career was brief, it still deprived all of us of SO much. Today was just another example of how much better sober life is over life as a drunk. I am so proud of him ... and of ME that I was able to be there for him and witness his triumph. Might not seem like much to the average person, but for me and him, it was major.

Thank you all for your support and encouragement. You've been with me for the 3 years I've been working on my sobriety and you still are. I'm getting there. Thank you. What a great day.

Congratulations to you both. I'm glad you both had a fantastic day. For me, when I was a drunk, I was the most unreliable person on this planet. I had great ideas but was never able to carry them through. Drink always destroyed it somehow. Now things are so much different. I'm so pleased you're enjoying life again. Congratulations on your 7 days, that's superb. All the best.
