Took wife to dinner

We hadnt been out just us 2 in awhile.

Got a babysitter and went downtown.

I had a ton of fun and stayed sober.

She ended up getting tipsy which was fun to watch as shes a normie.

We sat at the restaurant bar cause no tables were available.

Some guy was drunk at the bar loud and obnoxious. He spilled on himself, broke a glass, and rudely asked for another b4 the mess was even cleaned up! The bartender looked pissed.

Im so glad I dont have to do that kind of thing from now on.

She had 3 drinks and is now asleep haha.

I was the DD!

Cognrats, Fallow! It's great to see life from this side, isn't it? It gives perspective on what we are leaving behind.

Good for you Fallow! I read all your posts, and LOVED this one.

There are times when I see drunk folks acting this way, and feel disgust and look down on them. Then I realize people surely thought the same of me at some point when I was "that person." I try to be more gentle with others, and realize just how horrible this disease is.

NOT casting judgement on you or anything like that. Hell, despite my best efforts I still find them foolish and obnoxious at times. Just a thought I had when I read your post.

Congrats again on a great evening. Keep on keepin on buddy!!

Thats just wonderful and beautiful..and im sure your wife had a great time being able to go out for the 1st time in a long time, and be able to rely on her husband to be the safe driver home As long as her being "tipsy" didnt shake you, then thats wonderful! I can imagine (at least for me) sitting at a bar may be a bit uneasy for me at first..so i admire your strength in that! It IS funny though, to watch all those around you and then sit back and say to yourself... "wow..i used to look and act just like these fools"... When people have asked me, "how can I handle being around a bunch of people drinking and having fun and im left out cause i cant drink".. i simply tell them... alcohol is not the only means of "having fun"... sometimes its even more fun to people watch!... and always remember...you will wake up refreshed with MEMORIES of a fun night....minus the hangover

My sponsor would tell me that I was back on the first step if I did that. I am powerless over alcohol, and there will come a day when my defenses are down and I will have no control again.

I'm curious what your sponser would want Fallow to do differently. I don't mean this question in any negative way, I am just curious. Thanks.

Her being tipsy didnt bother me. I definitely noticed the difference between her drinking and me. She finished her pre-dinner drink and didnt order another just drank water and talked. It was nice to focus my evening on communicating with her rather than my next drink. She got a glass of wine when dinner arrived and nursed it awhile...Im a slow eater. I didnt look down on the guy who was drunk, just observed. I know thats been me many times.

Another young lady at the bar got a dessert drink so my wife had one since I was driving. Normally she always drives, cause she never drank enough to not drive me home. Even nights I was supposed to DD she would end up driving. Because since she drank so little I felt entitled to get wasted. Pretty sad.

We didnt expect to sit at the bar, just did so because it was a 2 hour wait for a table! Im sure not recommendable for my situation but Im not gonna lock myself in the house. I had an absolute blast with this. My wife seems so much happier than usual and we needed a date night pretty bad it had been a long time since just us 2 had dinner.

Im definitely still coming to terms with the idea of step 1
