sober

I did not go to the liquor store last night (via cab at that) as I have in the past when my husband went out of town 'because I could get away with it". I did not even think about it.

I did get kind of scared when it got late, but I turned on the alarm, locked the bedroom door and prayed and then went to sleep.

I feel great this morning and I am going to the movies and to eat this afternoon

Good for you Elisabeth. "Getting away with it" is a danger zone for me too. If nobody knows, the kids aren't around, then who will it hurt? But we only hurt ourselves.

Isn't it great waking up feeling great, knowing that you are making the right decisions for yourself and you can think clearly and feel optimistic about the day rather than ashamed, disappointed, and tired? It makes it all worth it...

It did occur to me that had I been drunk I would not have had the awareness to be scared or to worry about my husband. So even though it was uncomfortable, it was good to feel.

Good for you, to continue with little life things like the movies and eating out. I used to do the "get away with it" now I live alone and do I can always get away with it so I need to be my own responsibility.

Thank you for posting today...today is day 30 for me and it could be a "get away with it" day. But coming on here and reading your post made me decide today will be like the last 30 days....sober!

Congrats on staying sober

That's great, Elizabeth. We grow stronger when we face uncomfortable feelings with a clear, sober mind. Or so I hear.

I finally got off the phone. My word. There is drama and I am not it!!!!

Nor do I want to be involved in ANYONE'S drama. I need peace.

I've found turning off the phone...taeking a bubble bath with my favorite
music flowing in quite relaxing....

Then too the Serenity Prayer keeps me emotionally balanced.

No drama zone would be nice. Last week I strangely found myself in the very wierd position of being the voice of reason. The calm in the middle of the storm
Never in a million years would I have ever thought that would happen.
Keep hangin in there

It seems these days for me, every time I think I'm going to get "away with it..." I end up in jail. Trust me, I'm not someone you'd expect to be behind bars. For some reason, I think the Universe is sick of letting me get away with it.

I'm so happy for you that you decided against the drink. It had to be a great feeling for you getting up this morning! Keep it going girl!
