i feel sick

this sucks. I feel so sick. I know I am an alcoholic and I need to quit, but I can't seem to do it. I managed to go just 4 days last week without drinking. Then came Friday and I convinced myself that I could allow myself to have a few - I swore I would go to the gym first thing in the morning and i would get right back on the sober track. And of course I have been drunk almost every waking moment since then. I made it to work on Monday, but I was already thinking about drinking long before I left for the day. Bought a bottle of whiskey on my way home, and drank just about all of it. Called out sick the next day. I'm sick of having to go through this ****.
Towards the end of 2011, I made my first real effort at getting sober. I used this site daily, and I made it almost 3 straight weeks with no booze and it was great. Then came New Year's Eve. I drank that night, and I've been drinking almost every night since. enough is enough - I need this to stop. I think I need help.

I've never personally sought medical detox, I've always done it alone, and it's dangerous/miserable, so if you can do that... I would consult with your doctor and simply don't drink for the next 24 hours... then the next and so on.

Get detoxed and sober up, when the fog clears you can start making a long term plan.

And keep posting here. Most of us have been right there with you, and it, well it just EFFING SUCKS. I feel for you, I truly do, but you CAN beat this.

This site is full of people who have been exactly where you are right now. You're not alone. Many of us have had numerous failed attempts at sobriety, and while it isn't easy, it can be done. Might be time to think about some kind of program this time around ... AA, AVRT, SMART, counseling ... something that will give you the tools you need to quit.

I agree with Programmer, it's important to see a doctor when you decide to stop. He/she can evaluate your health as well as prescribe something that can help you with the withdrawals. I did two detoxes at home and did my last and final one in the hospital. Some kind of medical supervision is important during those first few days without the booze.

Support is also critical, so keep coming to SR. Lots of good stuff and good people here.
