Welcome to SR. If going to a detox/rehab center is a possibility you may want to give that a shot. SR is a great place and i find that it's best when used in conjunction with a program like AA. For me, physically going to meetings keeps me from isolating myself and isolation is one of my triggers for relapsing. It seems to be a common trigger.

Again, welcome. You can do it if you are willing.

Welcome, enpointe. This is a good place to be if you need support. What have you done so far? Seen a doctor/counselor, checked out AA, AVRT, or other recovery program? Is this your first day without alcohol? If so, please be careful with the detox ... you don't say how much you've been drinking, but detox can be very hard on the body/emotions and even dangerous. Seeing a doctor would be a good start, being honest about how much you've been drinking and for how long. You want to be sure you're physically healthy and get medical supervision for detoxing, whether you do it at home, a hospital, or a treatment center. Please do that before you do anything else.

As far as support, we're here for you on this journey. Glad you're here.

welcome enpointe

I think a good first step is to see your Dr or some other medical professional - detox can be rough sometimes. They may even have suggestions about treatment plans, recovery groups etc.

I know you'll find a lot of ideas and support here

Hi Enpointe.

Your making a good choice in stopping your alcohol/drug problem. Having a treatment plan can help. Hope to see you around here at SR. You can change for the better.

Welcome enpointe!

You'll find a lot of people here who know exactly what you're going through. I came here when I was at my lowest, wondering if I'd ever be able to stop drinking. Life is good today.

Keep reading and posting!

thanks for welcoming me. i havent sought any treatment of any kind at this point. i know i have a problem but dont know if i am 'addicted'??? not sure what the definition of an alcoholic is. i do know that i drink way too much and once i start, i cant stop. i see other people having a drink or two and that seems so foreign to me! i also know that i have become someone i dont recognize or like...like i said, i am really new to all this and have no clue.

I think sometimes we can complicate things with labels - you know you have a problem and maybe thats enough for now - you certainly sound like you belong here to me...

SR really helped me turn my life around - I hope we can help you to do that too

Welcome to the family enpointe. Two things you mention indicate you're drinking alcoholically rather than socially. Once you start, you can't stop - and you've become someone you don't recognize. That's how it was for me, too - but I didn't have the sense to stop even when I knew I was destroying myself.

Be glad you've decided to make a change. Don't be afraid to let go of alcohol - as you said, you're miserable. Keep reading & posting - we all understand how you feel & we're here to help.

I spent way too much time wondering if I was an alcoholic enpointe. I knew I had a problem with alcohol from the first time I drank but didn't do anything about it for many years. Have you thought about giving up alcohol? x

This is all you need to know. Call it whatever you like, or don't...from your post you recognize that your relationship with alcohol is destroying the very core of your being. There is so much to read and learn here. You can walk free from addiction if you so desire. Welcome.

You will find different recovery programs discussed here. I recovered in the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Wishing you the best. I know how you feel.

Alcoholism and addictions do not surface in one day, and likewise neither does recovery - so, consider it a journey.. - a Healthy one! one you should consider on embarking on right away if you haven't left yet.. Welcome to the community!
