Employment Update

24.5 hours logged in at a special education school this week. First time in a classroom since about 11 years ago (I had a hard time forgiving myself for several things....plus I kept deluding myself about how bad my drinking had gotten; generally a long, sad story).

I mostly leave updates in the May 2011 Forum under the Newcomer's Threads link, but someone had asked about my "new job."

So, I will be a temporary (20 hours a week) employee until about Spring Break, about a month or at least a few weeks.

Let's hope they want me as a full time employee, but until then, I will go with the flow of life!

I've already begun to lose weight by walking/standing most of the day....I'm a lot more active now!!

It's funny how I can accomplish more with less time now! Motivation to succeed in all areas is a blessing today! A year ago, I wasn't thrilled with my employment, it wasn't satisfying, and life in the bottle generally wasn't living! (even if I did make it to work)

I have had the ability to not work for 10 months of my sobriety, this time around. As if my HP had other plans (as usual), so now, the time has come to practice my spirituality in the "real world" and not just on the street, on a bus, in a store, or at a meeting.... So far at this job, I've only taken their inventory in my head and all seems okay (I do hear all the complaints from other workers, boy, do I remember doing that before I got my beer years ago!). I'm working on things (me)... Lots of talking with others in recovery, specifically my sponsor!

Thanks for your support!
Hugs,

As an alcoholic as well as the mother of a child with autism, I congratulate you. That is hard work and I have the utmost respect for people who work with children like mine. They are a godsend to me and I know you will be a blessing to the kids and families that you will be reaching. Good for you, and thank you for all you do.

DS, all of these students happen to have "high functioning" Autism!

Ever notice how alkies resemble people who happen to have Autism?
(saved for another thread!)

lol!!! Yes, I have noticed that! My son is relatively low-functioning (he has some developmental delay going too, and is nonverbal) but some of his behaviors remind me of me. Poor kid.

Sugarbear, that is awesome! And it sounds like you've got a great handle on the day by day work conflicts/issues (your inventory comment), too! Good job

Good for you SugarBear. You will probably find that being in the "real world" is very satisfying esp in the field you're in. Wishing you all the best in your new endeavor. I know you will be awesome at it bc you are awesome!
