Welcome, sanderbant, we are here for you. I'm pretty new here too, but please stay and keep posting and reading, you will find a lot of support. If you want to talk to someone real time, I would suggest trying the chat room - there's a link at the top of the page.

Sand,
This site has helped me a lot as I struggle with my alcoholism.
It has helped me to understand that I'm not alone in what I'm going through.
Hang in there.

I couldn't sign back on last night. Sorry for the post and run.

I am having a problem with alcohol and I just don't know how to stop. I stop for a while and then relapse. I will think that I am OK to have just one drink but as soon as I have that one I keep going. Thank you all so much for welcoming me. <3

Thanks for giving us an outline of the problem. A lot of us here are or have been in exactly the same position. One thing I can assure you, the more you reach out for help and support and the more you learn about the nature of the problem, the easier it is to deal with. You don't ever to ration the number of times you post or hide any secrets from us. We'll be sharing back with you our experience strength and hope.

Definitely just keep reaching out and there will be people here to support you. God knows I identify, I've lost count of doing "well" for awhile and then thinking...well a glass won't hurt me. 5 days later after another bender I just have a host of mistakes and regret. Hang in there, I'm new too.

Thanks for the post. That is exactly what happens with me. I will be doing great and then that one glass turns into days. Even as I sit here reaching out I am considering going to the store to feel better

That's the very cycle that brought you here. It can stop...by stopping. The foundation of recovery is NOT DRINKING, no matter what.

On top of that foundation you build the structure of your recovery...there are lots of different materials (recovery methods...AA, Rational Recovery). Pick one and work on your sobriety.

Welcome Sanderbant.

I think all of us have felt what you're feeling. It's terrifying to look at what our life has become, and yet it's terrifying to think of changing it.

You're not alone - you'll find a lot of support here.

and...you have more than enough posts to be able to PM now

D

Welcome Sanderbant - I've felt the same way many times. I had tried to moderate the amounts I was drinking but I always failed. The only way I could be safe was to stop completely. I finally did it with the help of the amazing people here. I hope you'll feel the same way. You can have a whole new life - one without fear and dread. Keep posting!
