What are your small gifts of recovery?

I can play with my dog, call my mom, remember yesterday, have regrets and hopes. It's pretty awesome. And listen to Utube. My best to all.

and...I really enjoy movies, and watch all kinds of them, even the kinds that make you really think!!

Also, books. I read them and remember. I read faster. I finished my last book within 30 days. An all time record in the last 15 years!!!

My memory and handwriting have improved, removing all doubt that I'm doing the right thing. I also don't have to go through the day with a rotten feeling in my gut that I just may have said or done something stupid the night before...

small gifts? Hm not so sure of that one. I know ever since I've been recovering for 5 months EVERYTHING has had some extent of a huge meaning to myself. But I guess I can say small gifts for being sober is being able to go for walks again without going to the liquor store, taking my dogs for a walk and appreciating the outdoors once again how I get "we're very proud of you so far Chris" gestures I get from my parents, waking refreshed and not hungover, My aa meetings, the ability to speak whats on my mind now unlike before I was very closed minded.

Everything so far these past 5 months have been wonderful and been cherishing them each day and by living at one day at a time I remain faithful and stronger then ever. This is a great thread. Glad I came upon it

My gift of recovery is God gave me another chance at life...and I will never give up being every thing he intended for me to be.

Thanks all I guess by small gifts I wasn't thinking Nirvana but those things I need to appreciate moment by moment like breathing. Just walked my pup and could do it. This is the longest period of sobbriety in my 50 year drinking career. My absolute best to all

That feeling that I am actually living the day instead of moving through a cycle of hangover/shakes/anticipation/drunk/pass out. Seriously, it makes me want to cry to think I spent every day like that for fifteen years.

Fitz,

I get what your saying...the first thing I thought of though, was the gift of life and the chance to live differently...I know that is Nirvana. Just where I am at.

Small gifts in recovery...gratitude...although that is Nirvana too....hmmm...cherishing each new change/perspective.

My greatest gift for the past 15 days has been no remorse and regret in the morning. Still foggy headed but I'm hoping that improves over time.

Remembering interactions from the day before is a big deal but being confident and happy facing a new day is by far the best. It's the foundation upon which I will rebuild my happiness and future.

Great thread. Thank you SR and OP.
