So i started to go get a drink..
Again, thanks all. My friend was an in country vet, recovering from PTSD and AOD and he killed himself. I thought he had it together but I guess I don't know what together is. So I just made a donation to vets with PTSD in the name of SR. I am doing what I can do to not do what I could do. Blessings are welcome. His name was David, 3 tours. (The fool :-) Two was enough for me
I said a little prayer for Dave Fitz. I was in AF in 1971 but not in country. I was a medic taking care of the ones that returned. I hope that Dave's family, you, and his other friends can handle his loss. Most can't conceive what we know and believe. I am glad he had you, and you him.
My heart goes out to our Viet Nam Vets. There wasn't enough help or understanding as they came home. (Lived with my Marine husband near Parris Island during the war.)
Fitz - since you've joined we've seen you grow, and slay the dragon. I'm sorry that you're in such pain. By telling your friend's story you are honoring him, and helping others. May he rest in eternal peace - no more earthly cares.

Thank you for your service!! PTSD is no laughing matter. It's real and life robbing. The images come back thrice fold. Hearing a helicopter will take me back and all my training kicks in. We are trained for those scenarios, but we are never untrained. I swear there are days I can smell cordite, or hear AK's, snipers or worse, folks talking on cell phones - cell phone = detonating device.
I am sorry your friend took his own life. He will always be remembered as a hero. As are you!! Stay sober my friend!!
