Well, you've come to the right forum. Several people here are or have been in the same boat...

be careful, if you feel yourself getting worse you can always go to an er or doctors office for help. i was usuallly terrified to up-and-quit for this reason and would go to ambulatory detox for a benzo taper. but maybe benadryl or valerian tea or something similiar and non-additive for sleep would help?
not a doctor, just thinking about whats worked for me.

Welcome Needtostop

absolutely the best idea is to see a Dr.

Things you might read here that have worked for other people may not work, or may not even be suitable for you.

Alcohol detox is nothing to mess with - please think seriously about seeing a professional and stay safe.

I would majorly recommend an ER just to play it safe. My peace of mind that I wasn't having a heart attack was worth the $1600 price tag.

Went to Er at 2am---I was told I was having an axiety /panic attack due to withdrawring from the alcohol. Second day of sobriety.....what happened this weekend scared me...onto day 3.

I'm glad you went to the ER because at least now you know. Anxiety is very common when you stop drinking. Hopefully you've got a small supply of meds to get you through. It does get better with time. Promise.

Best of luck to you, needtostop. Congratulations on quitting! I know exactly how you feel. Tonight I am 6 days sober. Still having anxiety and some cold sweats. Those seem to be pretty typical with alcohol withdrawal. And going to the ER was a great idea. Tomorrow I'm going to the doctor for the same reason. From the research that I have done so far, they say to stay hydrated, take some multi-vitamins, eat as healthy as you can, and see a doctor. Eventually the physical withdrawals are supposed to subside. Mine have gotten a little better. Yours will too.
