6 weeks sober
6 weeks sober
I'm new to the site, so I guess this is my intro thread!
I quit drinking in mid-September, with the intention of going to at least the new year, but likely longer. Forever? It's hard to commit to forever...
But I do recognize how much better life is without alcohol, and am coming to the realization that it really isn't *that* bad to be a non-drinker.
I've "quit" drinking quite a few times already, and it usually lasts anywhere from a couple weeks to a few months. But I always go back..
So, I'm looking for ways to *not* go back.

Welcome to the family. My biggest way to stay sober is to be grateful for all my blessings, sobriety not the least of them. Seriously, I was about two or three months sober and was still miserable and had cravings and the urge to drink all the time. I was sober but not happy and I could see a relapse coming. So I started practicing gratitude. I am now grateful to have almost two years sober.
Every day I'd find at least one thing to be grateful for. And it became a habit, being thankful. Now I wake up grateful and go to bed grateful. Sure makes it easy to stay sober as I'm grateful for so many things and could lose them all if I drank again. So that's the biggest thing keeping me sober and happy. Give it a try. We have a Gratitude forum just for giving thanks. Hope to see you there.

Internet, I can totally relate. I've also managed to quit for a few months only.
"Quitting" and "forever" are such scary words when put together.
But so are "dead", "liver failure", "failure" in general, "regerets"...
Here's hoping we find a way to stay sober and grateful.
