I don't know that you have to say anything to your parents, yet. If AA resonates with you, and don't decide until you've been to several different meetings, you may find the support you need there.
You dad's loss is tragic and a good reminder of what alcoholism can do. It's your job though, not his, to get yourself recovered. There is a lot of support here and at AA. Once you get a better handle on things and you are moving forward, maybe then have that talk...

Just got back from my first A.A meeting and have no idea what I was so nervous about. The people made me feel like I was a long lost friend and there was no pressure or judgement anywhere in the evening. This forum has already proved invaluabled to me and combined with A.A I know it's going to make a real difference to my aim of staying on track. Thanks for the support everyone.
