Hello all. I've been reading posts for the past few days and decided to register today. I am living with and married to a recovering alcoholic and opiate addict. He has been alcohol free for over a year, but only 4 months of clean time with the opiates (percocet). During the past 4 months, he has "slipped" twice. He is in drug counseling and seeing a psychiatrist (diagnosed bipolar). Since starting with the psych and being medicated, things have been a lot better, but now I find I'm the one who needs some recovery. I've discovered I'm codependent. I saw several posts about a book called Codependent No More and went to the library and picked up a copy about an hour ago. I also have an appointment with his drug counselor. She agreed to see me individually and provide some guidance about addiction. Before him, I had dated another addict. I was strong enough and smart enough to walk away before I got in too deep. Too late this time. But, I have hope that I can better myself and my own reactions because that's the only person I'll ever have control over - MYSELF. So, thank you for being here and I hope to give as much as I receive. You have all helped me so much already.
Hugs,
nerdy
