Feeling so good
Hey everyone, I just thought I would put down in (writing?) how I feel.
Lately I have been feeling the best I have in years, and it's true happiness; not alcohol induced. I have been sober for 119 days, and although there were ups and downs, I'm on an all-time high right now. I've been doing many activities with friends that I normally would have replaced with a night, or day, of drinking. I never thought I could get to this point of happiness without alcohol. Everything seems to be going so well, and I'm finally comfortable to tell people that I don't drink any more, and not care about their response.
I haven't attended aa or any other program; I have just been seeing a psychologist. I'm a little frustrated at seeing some of the things people have posted, and how adamant they are that an alcoholic needs to have a program to stay sober.
Anyway, that is all for today! I hope everyone has a great day

Hi Jil,
Congratulations on your sobriety and that you're feeling so good.
Personally, I work on my recovery every day, though I don't use a formal program. But, it's important to me to make sure I have balance in my life and that I pay attention to my needs.

Glad to hear you're doing well Jil
I used to say I had no programme, but I do - it has no name, but it's mine, and it works and it's a part of my day to day life....I make a conscious effort to stay in the life I've made for myself, and a conscious effort to reach out to others.
so I am one of those guys who suggests a programme is necessary...but there's nothing wrong in making it your programme

Good on you! Love to read posts like yours. I'm on 7 months working my own program. Also seeing a psychologist and using the forums here. Glad to say it is working for me as it is working for you.
My reasons for not doing AA are twofold.
1) I'm not religious
2) My dad is in AA and I have a lot of bad memories of it growing up. (It's a great program helps lots of people I know. Just not for me)
Good luck!

for me AA is more than a program. It is finding people ASAP who understand, and who do not drink. I kept trying to stop while continuing to hang with my alcoholic friends, or while just staying stuffed in my cave of a house.
Those didn't work. AA gives me a place to talk. Who knows if it will work out in the long run for me, but for now I'm happy with it.
Oh, and AA is free. Therapists are expensive :P
