Confessions
Someone said in a previous thread that it's helpful to excorcise the demons and confess to the awful things that we've done while drunk. So I have to credit this idea to that person. I don't know if it's appropriate to say who so I hope she'll take the credit where it's due.
I am ashamed of so so much that I did while totally while totally wasted and maybe this is a good way for me and anyone else to purge and maybe take a step towards forgiving myself.
Çonfession:
I told my 12 year old daughter that she was a horrible person for saying that I was embarrassing her. She isn't a horrible person. I was embarrassing her. I have apologised for what I said and told her that she is NOT a horrible person at all. Having trouble forgiving myself for this though. I think I need to apologise to her again, and also apologise for embarrassing her.

Laura - Certainly apologize again if that is where you feel led.
Beyond apology, the new self you create in recovery will serve as a lifelong amend to your daughter.
Thank you for your courage to share this painful but oh-so-familiar aspect of your struggle.

Others, especially our children, will be affected by our actions, not our words.
I know what it is like to be the alcoholic mother who embarassed her children.
I also know what it is like to have a solid program of recovery that has allowed me to make my amends.
