Two weeks - Feeling so much better!
Just wanted to mark my two weeks of sobriety by making my first post to a forum here. I felt I had really hit bottom - drinking all the time, couldn't make it into work, not being there for my children (I'm a single Dad for a while).
Now I'm back to running and swimming, taking care of business at home and work, and feeling wonderful. The only downside is that I've done this before, sometimes for several months. Then something happens to make me want to self-medicate, and I give in. I need to find a way to handle that stress when it comes again, as it certainly will.
Reading the posts here at SR has really helped me. I know there are lots of people with the problems I have, but it's great to read about your actual experiences. I know I'm not alone.
Thanks, SR. You're really getting me through!

That's great to hear!
I'm just at 30 days today and every day sober just gets better and better. Life feels so much more rewarding and real without the haze of being drunk or hungover. Of course I still feel the lure of escaping through booze, but I just remind myself it's simply not an option anymore.
I hear you about slipping back into self-medication. It feels so justified at the time, but we need to do something else when we feel that way. Something that isn't self-destructive, instead do something that's beneficial to the soul. Ring up someone you love and talk to them, hug someone, have a herbal tea
I wish you strength and diligence on your road to recovery.
