Never Thought I'd Make It To 1 Year, But I Did!!
Hey all. Joined a year ago today on my sober date. (actually took my last drink on April 25th, 2010, but whatever ) So here I am a year later still sober - in no small part because of this forum and the folks around these parts who selflessly help out and keep it real.
I've been absent around SR for a while now because some construction nightmare happening in my 'hood. The knuckleheads have somehow dug up some cables and messed up the internet connection for our entire block - for almost 2 months now aargh! So, not sure how much I can respond to this thread until they get it fixed (which was supposed to happen last week).
Anyways, just came through a Starbucks and thought I should take the time to post my 1 year date since it really is a big one for me. Longest sober period in my adult life by far. Woot!!
Just a parting word for the newb's just starting out and thinking a year without booze is impossible... it's not impossible. It is doable and more worth it than you can possibly fathom. My worst day this past year was still far better than my best day while drinking. Plus I've started to gain a certain clarity and emotional focus that I don't remember ever owning while living life as a professional drunk idiot.
Keep trying. Fight hard to stay sober, because sobriety rocks. Full stop.
Thanks to all around here who kept at me and continue to help me and others. You guys are golden!!!
