My Day 1

I am excited to have found this site. I need a change. A am a classic excample of a functional addict, but I am too stubborn to let this rule my life any further!

I will die if I do not stop the drugs and alcohol. It has already taken all of my adult life thus far........It has to stop.

I am looking for any ideas on filling my time. Mostly after work, "Happy Hour" other than meetings I am doing that already!!

Thanks!
MMA

How about volunteer work?

Look around your community and see what you can get involved in and give back.

Welcome mma and Grandnana
Please look around and read and post as much as you like - we're a friendly bunch here.

mma - I think the question of how to fill in your time is limited only by your own imagination really - Anna's is a great suggestion.

do you mean what to expect from sobriety Grandnana? You'll find a lot of advice and support here - if you start your own thread....hit the big blue New Thread button at the top left hand side of the newcomers forum page....you'll get even more response

D

Welcome mma and Grandnana!

Reading and posting here is a great way to fill up some time, mma. It took a while for me to figure out alternatives to drinking, but once I got some of my energy back, I started working on my house, reading. gardening and knitting (also making jewelry)..... there's so many things to do......

Drinking made me not care about a lot of things (including myself). It's nice to be engaged in my life again. Hang in there!

Hi MMA, welcome to SR. I've found working out and putting a lot of effort into eating healthy really fills those after work hours.

Learn how to deal with the normal life and don't force the highs and lows in life.

WELCOME! The feeling of freedom is a bit overwhelming! You wont be tied to one spot because you are to drunk to drive or function in public. Mornings will be welcome and nice! Work will fly by because you arent sick all day. It takes some getting used to. The rewards are great though! WELCOME

After the fog lifts and the dust settles you will know how to bide your time.
I spent alot of time here...also had stuff from rehab I had to do, did alot of 'looking up' stuff online. Then as I felt better and better and my energy increasd I did other things. Tuesday night I got my 8th tattoo, Wednesday night was American Idol, tonight I have a meeting...OH! So much to do in such little time.

I feel amazing. Got tested last night, went to dinner with some friends who decided we should have drinks. I declined and no one cared!! I guess it wasn't a weak moment.....but the first time I have had to be faced with the choice!!!!

I kept thinking of posting here that I had drinks, and it kept me from doing so! I know that it will not alwauys work, but it was easy to say NO.....I know that it will not always be that easy.....but just for that moment I was so proud! I really liked that feeling!

Welcome!! I joined a gym to fill the empty time. I've lost 9lbs since the end of Janurary, but am still having a hard time giving up drinking. But I'm getting there...slowly.

If you're an addict of the hopeless variety, it may be that cleaning out garages and other activities that fill your day are insufficient to keep you from picking up again.

Addiction and alcoholism aren't like trying to quit biting your nails.
