Goodnight...
Goodnight...
I drink to go to sleep- tonight I'm trying to do it with chamomile tea and meditation (and melatonin). I am trying to urge surf and relax. To get my brain to understand that I don't need a drink. Nor do I need six. I hate the fact that these cravings keep sneaking back...
Good night SR forum peoples.
Good night car I won't be driving to the liquor store.
Good night bottle opener left in the drawer.
Good night clock that says an earlier time than usual.
Good night ocean and cars buzzing along the highway.
Good night wallet not emptied for alcohol.
Good night little apartment I love.
Good night booze.

It might take a bit of time, but I found that once I was sober.. I slept better than I had in a very long time. Sleep is healing for the body and spirit.. I hope you got a bit last night And if not.. maybe tonight.. or tomorrow night!

Good morning! So how did it go?
Took me a couple weeks to be able to fall asleep again easily, but like flutter said, I now sleep soooooo much better than when I was drinking. And waking up—that got a whole lot better from the first day!

Good morning you three!
I slept beautifully. I feel great today; especially not being hung over, having not spent any money on alcohol, not trying to discreetly throw away bottles and cans so my neighbors don't think I'm a drunk...
And falling asleep instead of passing out felt FANTASTIC.
Thanks again guys-- I know not every night will be that easy, but I am thankful for the experience I had last night.

So glad to hear that you slept well. I'm on day 12 and
sleep is ever elusive. But even though I'm only getting
a few hours a night, I agree with you it is a restful sleep
and so much better then that nightly pass out and then
coming to that has been my life for so long.
Also I really liked your "story book". I can even imagine
the pictures that would accompany it. lol. Goodnight Moon
was one of my boy's favorites when they were little.

Thank you mtnmaj!
I'm riding the waves of craving- not fighting, but recognizing and observing.
Is melatonin okay to use for sleeping on a regular basis?
How do "normal" people sleep?
How do recovering alcoholics sleep?
I've had sleep issues since I was at least ten years old, and for the past eight or nine years numbing my head with alcohol has been my go-to method for clearing out the noise in my head.
Meditation helps, but not enough....
Tonight I'll be reading, praying, and trying to continue this Urge Surfing business, which I must say I'm immediately very fond of.

My sleep secret: I take a HOT shower and/or HOT bath. I read a book in the bathtub. I put on my warm fuzzy PJ's and jump into bed as soon as I'm out of the shower. Then read in bed until sleep hits me like a ton of bricks, which takes about 5 minutes.
Something about raising your body temperature helps you to fall sleep. I used to drink myself to sleep, too. I've been sleeping well for almost 4 months now - my face and skin look so much better. Everything is better.

I never had a big problem sleeping, except when I was detoxing, but I have been using 5-Hydroxy Tryptophan, for cravings and for helping with relaxation. You should consult with your Dr. before taking any supplement, but you can get it at any vitamin store, and I take 100mg in the AM with my other vitamins, and 100mg before I go to bed. I have been doing it for the last month, and I have had good results, and doze off within 15 minutes of hitting the pillow every night. Please don't consider this medical advice, but it has helped me.
