TOPIC: Where U Come From And Choose To Go
Hi Im Sharon. I am an Alcoholic.
I'm learning that it doesn't matter
where you come from, but rather
where you chose to go.
Where did you come from? Type
of background? Good or bad?
Family, single, divorced? Rich,
poor? Athletic, studious?
Alcoholic, drug addict, al-anon,
ACOA?
I came from a dysfunctional
middle class family, 2nd child
of 4. Physically and verbally
abused at the hand of a sick
mom. I left home at 19, drank
to escape, fill in voids, numb,
party etc.
I stayed in a 25 yr marriage
7 yrs drinking, the rest sober.
Raised 2 awesome, talented
smart independant young adults.
Ended the marriage and was
directed back to my hometown
of Baton Rouge. Another gift
of marriage and having fun
in my early 50's.
I could have stayed stuck
in the past yet that wasn't
in the cards for me. I could
have drank and died from
holding onto resentments
from my past. I learned to
let go of them.
I could have remained miserable
and mean and yet I chose
to be happy and grateful.
I learned from the past and
use it to my advantage to make
a better life for myself.

Hi my name is Brad, im an addict.
Im 28 years old. Come from a great family. Never had any family members have alcohol/drug problems in the past. Im the first one LOL.
My dad committed suicide when I was 6. My mom and I moved to Florida after that. Move back to Ohio when she met my step dad when i was about 14. Around 15 I started smoking pot. Then around 18 I was able to get in to some local bars. My friends were all over 21. So naturally I started drinking before 21. Then early 20's I got into the drug scene pretty hardcore. Started doing ecstasy every weekend for like a year. Pills all the time. Smoking weed daily. Drinking on the weekends. Id say this lasted from 20-24/25. Then when I was 25 I moved back to Florida. All i was doing at the time was drinking and smoking pot. Drinking has never been an issue for me. Never got out of hand. Never had a problem not drinking. Then when I got a job bartending when I first got to Florida, I got re-introduced to my friend Oxy/Roxy, and it was all downhill from there.
Ended up moving back home to Ohio. Completely addicted and dependent on pills. Got sober December 10, 2010. No looking back now.
Im in debt beyond reason. My girlfriend of 4 years moved back home and we are trying to make things work as a long distance relationship while I get help. No license. No car. No cell phone. No bank account. No job.
But im healthy. And im sober. And I have a (once again) great relationship with my family.
