One bright note! I had bloodwork done yesterday for a check up this week. Just the regular doc. My liver tests are down to *almost* normal, compared to where they were(but I know I have extensive fibrosis, via a liver biopsy). Just about 10 points high. So, despite my scarring, the liver is less inflamed now. (Just an FYI, those liver enzymes can be *normal* and you can still have a very scarred liver). That has got to be good news(the test results). If I never had a biopsy, I would be ignorant and be thinking everything is so much better. Could be lots of folks walk around with my degree of liver injury and never even know. Knowledge is power, I keep trying to remind myself.
Also, ALL of my bloodwork is remarkably better and near or in normal ranges. Ny diabetes blood work(and I only control it with diet), and my cholesterol is down 75 points or so, and my triglycerides fell over 300 points into a normal range.
It's gotta mean my organs are functioning better.
As for the wanting to say goodbye, have you ever read "Drinking, a Love Story" by Caroline Knapp? She talks about these feelings a lot. As opposed to you, though, she did so a farewell to alcohol thing before hitting rehab. Then she wrote lovingly about booze in her book, which I think we all can relate to. It sounds like you know you can't actually ingest alcohol anymore to do the goodbye thing, but maybe reading the book will help.
