Hello everyone!

Hello everyone!

I haven't been posting recently and just wanted to say 'hi' and that all is well. I intend to visit the site more often than I have been.

No more AA for me, but still sober . . . meditation is an amazing thing.

Love to all.

SM

Thanks everyone,

JMF: In short, it just wasn't for me. I had some strange experiences, culminating in my sponsor insisting that I go on a 10-day silent Buddhist retreat. Also, some problems with the program itself that I won't go into here.

I took a lot from it though: working towards daily mindfulness, helping other people and a greater self-awareness being the main things. Meditation is helping me find more peace than I saw in many of the meetings I went to.

Be well everyone.

Hey man. I was only wondering how you were doing recently mate.

I'm really pleased that you are still sober and that you didn't let certain people at AA scare and demoralise you back into another drink.

Nice one man, really pleased for you.

Peace

I'm always saddened when I hear that the word/message of AA has been distorted in some people's lives. Sorry to here that is the case for you as well as others I've come across on this post and other places as well. Good luck in your progress to stay sober.

The best way is to find a meditation teacher. There are also some good books about it. Here is a PDF of the book, "Mindfulness in Plain English", which describes how to do Vipassana (mindfulness) meditation. There are also some good instructions to be found specifically related to recovery at Dharma Punx and Against the Stream. You don't have to become a Buddhist to benefit from the techniques. The Dharma Punx and Against the Stream websites also have free downloadable meditations.
