Living life on lifes terms.

Wow, I am so thankful I quit drinking & have learned how to live life on its terms & not mine!

The first of the month I find out I am a type 2 diabetic & also have high cholesterol! If I had been still drinking & not found a new solution for life I am not sure how I would have dealt with those, but of course when I was drinking I did not get yearly physicals so I would not have found out for quite some time, possibly I may never have found out until I had some of the catastrophic things that result from having untreated diabetes & high cholestrol.

Since I am no longer drinking and am now addressing taking care of myself along with living life in a new manner I have drastically changed my diet as well as taking meds for both diabetes & high cholesterol both of these issues are coming into check.

I could feel like life is not fair, I have not drank in 3 1/2 years & have not smoked for 2 1/2, but in reality I see the blessings of both because these are 2 things that I have already accomplished that help me control both problems. I have used the 12 steps for both issues (smoking & drinking) and am using them for my new issues, diabetes & high cholesterol.

Friday I discovered that I in all likelyhood also have a bad gall bladder, I find out today if I will be seeing a surgeon to take care of that one!!!

56 years old & falling apart!!!! LOL.

I am thankful for all of you, my brothers & sisters along with my brothers & sisters in AA as well as my HP & the program of AA that has allowed me to deal with all of these new things with out even thinking of a drink as a solution or escape from any of them.

I was about to ask you how the diabetes is going...

Yes, it's hard dealing life as it really is, but it's so worth the effort.

Taz, I have also learned tools to help me deal with life and whatever comes along.

It's not always easy, but we can do it!

Taz, awesome job staying sober so long and using the tools that helped you with your alcoholism to combat your new health problems. It's awesome how the steps can apply to other things in life. I'm very new to this and already seeing how admitting you are powerless can work wonders in other life situations. It's a very freeing feeling.

I hope you receive good news today! Best of luck to you with your health and just dealing with life.

That's great Taz!

I have had one big thing that has come up that would have been the ideal excuse to get back on the pity pot and would have sent me straight out there before but am dealing with it as a sane mature adult....it's easy to laugh about the sane thing in the rooms and between ourselves but the more time passes and the more i find myself dealing with life on life's terms the more i am starting to take pride in the fact that i am a sane mature adult and i do make sane and mature choices and i can be relied upon to make the right choice!

Fair enough i totally rely on God to guide me in all my 'choices' and in my life, but to the outside world this is being a sane mature adult;-)

We are not insane anymore, and have been restored to sanity!

Thanks guys to all of you.

I heard a lady share last week that she has noticed that the actions she takes after prayer & meditation are adult actions! LOL

She refered to it as putting on her big girl panties!

I assume that means I am really wearing boxers now!

I am falling apart as I enter adulthood.

Thanks trucker, I always enjoy & gain from your post as I am sure others do as well.

So very true, I am still new to this peace & serenity stuff, I am amazed that I am not worried sick waiting for the phone call from the Dr. about my ultrasound done Saturday morning.

I've found it's not difficult to control my Type 2 diabetes.
Good to know you are taking action.....

Thanks for sharing this, Taz. I've thought about this a couple of times....I've not had to deal with anything stressful since I quit drinking. I hope I've learned enough, that I can come through it like you are....with big girl panties on.

Thanks, Taz.

What an amazingly grateful post, Taz. Thank you. Prayers going out for your good health. At least in sobriety, we're taking pro-active measures to detect things early than react to health problems when it might be too late.

Well good news............ I do not have any stones........ the bad news is more test!!! They are going to shoot me up with some glow in the dark stuff and see how things are moving through my gallbladder. I wish they would just take it out, no more pain & I really do not need it, my wife had hers out 20 years ago & does not miss it.

Thanks to all for the well wishes & prayers.

Thanks Taz, as usual you are an inspiration.
I too have very high Cholesterol and I still smoke nicotine. You probably know by now that I don't go to AA.
If I ever will it would be because of you. You've got it worked out.
Thanks again.
