Introducing myself...
welcome to Sr catfish...where do we get these screen names from....lol.
Its great you felt like that when you stopped drinking...i guess lots of peoples lives fall into place almost immediately...
i did.....briefly..very briefly.
i very quickly learnt i had big problems coping without booze...or rather coping with me.
everything on the outside got good real quick........wife happy....doctors happy......family happy....and i floated along on that for a little.
then i was left with me....the alcoholic without a drink...that turned into the alcoholic with a drink often....
life on lifes terms became unbearable..........doctors were lining up to give me the necessary medication to make my day full of sunshine.
i was left with one other option......the drunk club down the road....AA
god has it really come too this......cold rooms with sh@t coffee...endless chat about some book.........lol
man i was full of myself.....but i had to do something.....i just couldn't live with or without it.
i got a sponsor.......who showed me a program of recovery laid out in the big book of alcoholics anonymous....
and have remained happy and content without booze since..
whatever way you stay sober i wish you every success........if you cant try AA...It was the key to living sober for me.
god bless

The first day was pretty crappy as we all know it will be. Had a rough time sleeping last night and I still have the shakes pretty bad, but I am weathering the storm.

Welcome to SR Catfish.
It is good you are hitting the gym.
Exercise at the gym is the main contributor to me staying sober.
I am doing a 16 week challenge program. You will be able to find it under the fitness section.
Still 8 weeks left if you want to join us and then at the end you will have 8 weeks sober so it can't hurt. No alcohol is one of the fitness requirements.
Good luck on retirement from your drinking career.

Welcome to the family, catfish! I went into middle age without admitting or doing anything about my drinking - at least you are taking the first step now. You'll never have to go through the hell that many of us have. We look forward to getting to know you better.

i very much can relate to you in may different ways...we both have at least recognized that we NEED to stop drinking..we NEED to get Sober. that is a very big step as i don think i EVER admitted to that to anyone before, no matter how much of an "isse" i knew it was deep down inside. Good luck in your recovery, be optimistic I am.

I can't ever let that happen to myself. It needs to stop now. Actually it needed to stop a long time ago. I am still fairly young and I already find myself wishing I had not given the weeks/months away to the bottle. I have a lot of potential and I need to get on the right track.
