Quietgirrl, that was a moving story. You have my support on here and you will find that the people on here are very warm, welcoming and helpful. I'm new at this myself, so I'll let others with more experience give you the real advice, but I just wanted to say welcome.

Hi Quietgirl,

Welcome and that's a great first post! It sounds like you have many reasons for living a sober life. I am sorry for what happened to your brother. And, you're right, being sober will help you to deal with your family, your job and your life.

Welcome to SR! We're glad you joined the family. Check out the many different forums and post where you like. There's a Friends and Families of Alcoholics forum you may find helpful also.

Hi Quiet. I like what you said about "not changing" things in your life. Getting sober is about change and it can be one of the best things you ever do for yourself.

My whole family has used and it's been the "normal" thing for all of us too. I had hit a real bottom and was completely dependent and addicted to alcohol. Needed it to do anything, constantly thinking about it and as well, totally physically, mentally and emotionally overwhelmed with it all. The physical dependency was very scary. Waking up in the morning and having to drink just to function. No way to live.

This is a great place to start. Lot's to share, read and tons of great support. Welcome!!

Well, we all have to start somewhere and actually its always right now, right now. There is no other time or place or space to be in or at ,so you're right where you need to be, doing what you need to be at the exact moment it needs to be done, so everything is begining well for you. You just need not to pick up, moment by moment, by moment. Figure out your recovery plan and stick with it unless it needs to change. By best to you and this prayer:

Healing Prayer

We, who need help, pray for the healing of our
physical, emotional and spiritual pains and difficulties.
Source of all blessings and powers,
heal us - empower us, and bless us.
We realize that we can’t do it alone, and we ask for blessings
from all those who have the power to help, elevate and heal.
We ask for the help from the sacred that is above us.
We ask for the support of those around us,
our friends, families, and communities.
We pray for the wisdom to find ways to help ourselves.
We ask for guidance to help us ease our way
and heal our hearts.
May we open ourselves to do the mystery that is beyond us,
the source from which we are never apart.
May we be happy and whole.
May energy pour through us for the benefit of one and all.
May we dance and lift up our hands and our hearts
in praise and rejoicing.

Namaste

Hi Quiet Girrl

Welcome to SR. I had a lot of problems in my life that I turned into reasons to drink too. There was no inbetween for me either

I got sober, I faced my problems - I'm still dealing with them, but I deal so much better with them now

Good to have you aboard. Hope to see you around more!

Welcome! Glad to have you with us! If you can, I recommend seeing your doctor and being honest about the amount you drink. Please keep posting and let us know how you're doing!
