2nd meeting
2nd meeting
Well its day 2 again, I have the usual sweats, shakes and anxiety. I went to my first meeting last night and going to another at midday (its 10.30 am now). I am confused about the different types of meetings, can someone tell me which is best for the newcomer?

Hi Marty,
So glad to see you are hanging in here, and going outside for support..
I like the Discussion meetings...They give you a chance to speak about your day , whether you are strugging, or having a good day...

As you can see.....
not everyone likes the same type of meeting.
I suggest you explore all that are available
in your area ....then you decide which you perfer.
Glad you are moving forward

Marty congrats on day 2. For a newcomer I think a combination of speaker meetings and newcomers meetings are excellent.
Speaker meetings let you hear one individuals journey and allow you to gain hope for your self.
To hear a person tell of what it was like, what happened and what it is like now is inspiring.
A new comers meeting is very good as well because there is usually a good mix of new comers and some folks with some time sober under their belts.
I know when I was in early sobriety I gained more hope for a person who had stayed sober 2-3 months then I did from some one with 20-30 years sober. I just could not understand how someone can stay sober 20 years, heck when I was new I had a hard time beleiving I would be able to stay sober 2 weeks.
Today I gain a great deal of hope from the experience of everyone in meetings. In early sobriety the most important thing I found to do was to go to meetings and not drink in between them. If I was really struggling I would call people, that helped a lot. At about 2 months sober is when I really started to get crazy and I found that getting a sponsor and taking the steps was what got me over the hump. I had a sponsor from day one, but did not start taking the steps until I had about 2 months, for me the steps were the key to good long term sobriety.

Its just fantastic.......and marty you doing just great...
Not sitting on your pity pot and getting to meeting......shows courage.
newcomer meetings are good.....hopefully your find a sponsor there.
Never too early to crack on with the steps or getting some study in the book.
hope you feel better soon.....take it easy......plenty of water...plenty of quiet time....
God be with you...........trucker

Hi Guys, Day 3 is nearly over and I just home from my 3rd meeting and relaxing with a green tea. I must admit is was so sceptical about AA but it is just incredible how I have be able to relate to just about everybody who spoke. I spoke for the first time tonight and everyone was understanding.
Even got some phone numbers.

Marty I am smiling as I read your progress, it takes me back to when I was fresh out of detox and I was just beginning to feel some hope, I was still going crazy, but I gained hope from those folks who had been where I was at that time and had stayed sober through both the good and the bad times.
Glad to see you got some numbers, now would you like to help some one stay sober one more day? Call those numbers, trust me when I say they will be glad you called, I was scared to call because I did not want to bother them...... well in time I learned I was helping them just as much as they were helping me. I love it when some one in the fellowship calls, even if it is for nothing more then to talk about nothing!
