How can you get a balance?

I have been working all weekend and have really struggled to stay sober.
Its made me so angry that my mind want let me rest for 2 minutes. I even contemplated getting a drink at work but knew i couldn't. That made me feel even worse and the mind whirling was so strong.
I have just been putting more and more work on myself and others have put work on me too but I'm drowning.
I really needed to go to a meeting tonight but have an assignment to write that needs to be in and i have no time to do it.
Ive started writing it but needed to come here for distraction.
I really want to just go to the corner shop and get something (in the sad attempt) that it will help.
I know it want, but the feelings are so strong.

I'm sorry, I'm just really tired but there aren't enough hours in the day or days in the week for what needs to be done.

Hi,

It sounds like you're under a lot of pressure at work.

Have you considered changing jobs and doing something that would give you more free time? I have found that finding balance is absolutely crucial to my recovery.

I thought about it but was pretty settled in my job.
I have been promoted recently so alot more responsibiliy.
Also i need to learn when to say no when they ask me to do extra work.
I just want to give in.

Congrats on your promotion. If it is a new job then things will probably get easier after you settle in and learn the ropes. Be strong and hang in there. Think positive. If the company wasn't happy with your work they wouldn't have promoted you. Maybe a lot of the pressure that you are feeling is self imposed.

Hey Louis -
Things sound tough. Good for you for not drinking.

Learning to say NO is a big lesson. I actually have stood in front of the mirror and practiced. My saving phrase has often been "let me think about that and I will get back to you.." That has often kept me from saying yes! Good luck.

Any chance that you could meet with your boss and prioritize the tasks? Maybe you don't have to be in the solution alone.

It always helps to take a few deep breaths.
Good luck. Keep posting.

I know i need to chill more and say no. Its all part of the job though and i have to do the extra.
I did so no today tho. The wanted me to go on another training course for training others and i said i couldn't. It actually made me laugh wheni had not long said i was drowning in paperwork and had this assignment due.

I should really get some of this work done as working tomorrow at 1pm til wednesday so the clock is ticking very quickly and extremely loudly.
Thanks again and be well

Hi louis
You know that stopping by the corner store will certainly not help you accomplish anything, it will only feed the monster. Stay on this site, call a supporter and go to the meeting. The paper can wait. Get past this moment in time, you can then work with your superiors after this passes. They saw something in you that warranted your promotion. We all support you and want the best for you. You can get past this and will be stronger for it.....stretch.

Your are but human. Sounds pretty overwhelming.
Drinking you already know definately wont help any of that.
Balance is tough sometimes. Especially with a new position and trying to prove your worthy of it.
But you still have to take it easy and do what id humanly possible.
How you do that. I have no clue. But you need to find a meduin somewhere.
Or your just going to drive yourself crazy.
I hope you find that balance. Just dont drink.

Again thanks for your advice and words of advice.
I managed to get my paperwork done for tonight. it's 11.15pm so think i'm heading off to bed (knackered). Need to get up early to do rest of assignment, before work. I'm about half way there.

I went to look at the cafe thread and i liked it. It's good for some light relief.

Thanks again.
Be well all

p.s Goodnight and peaceful dreams when the time comes

How can you get a balance? I guess just realize that if you have too much on one side then remove some. Either that or add to the other. Of course I am speaking figuratively here.

I am trying to find balance in my own life. The reason I chose the Yin Yang avatar is to remind myself to strive for the balance that I need in my life. I have not reached it yet and may not for years. But I will keep trying.

Hi Ken - I'm struggling with the mental part too. I'll be just fine and this voice will pop into my head that says "What about a drink? Woudn't it be nice to have a drink? Just today - you deserve it"

All sorts of nonsense. I have to remind myself that drinking is not a reward for anything, and that fact that my mind even works this way is proof that I am an alcoholic.

Of course, the drink won't help your work or your papers. Congratulations for coming here for your break and staying sober.

Kels - who is on day 2
