Hello all looking for new forms of help

Hello all, I'm a 24y.o male coming off of substance abuse. I am currently a full time student at a 4 year college.

I've come out of outpatient treatment for opiate abuse using suboxone and outpatient therapy four times a week for 3 hours every evening and going to NA twice a week as well. Right now I'm currently seeing a mental health professional, addictions counselor, and family M.D.

I'm coming here to try to answer some of my deeper questions that the dr.'s and therapists kind of dance around and avoid.

Hey Sschriever, It's refreshing to see a 24 y.o. going to N/A and counseling. May I ask if you are doing this freely or have you been ordered by the court ??

Yes, I am doing this freely, came clean about my addiction to my family and they have been nothing but supportive. However, a severe depression, and the new diagnosis of bipolar disorder has gone untreated and undiagnosed since my freshman year in high school, about a decade ago. The bipolar disorder and addiction did not make for an easy recovery and I've relapsed several times which my doctors are now telling me I was still attempting to self medicate myself with purchasing Rx opioids on the street, and using my regular prescriptions from my doctor to cope with the bipolar disorder. Now, being on new medication, I feel a strong desire to be free of the addiction and finally feel like I'm starting to get a little better. Before the new meds were started I was pretty much in a degenerative withdrawal where the longer I was clean the more intense and worse the withdrawal would get. Now, the more abstinence i have the better I feel and finally believe that I am actually making some progress. 3 days on the boards here and I've already learned more than I thought I would here and have received nothing but amazing support. I really like it here and thank you for the warm welcomes all!!!

God Bless
