Doctor Appointment
Doctor Appointment
Well, I'm back.
I feel better about the appointment...they're going to give me a monitor to wear later in the week, so maybe I can find out if these palpitations are harmless or not.
This doc was surprised that my first doc didn't suggest this. If the monitor thing doesn't go well and I need to be referred to a cardiologist, I'll need good luck for that one. Most specialists DO NOT take people who do not have insurance. If that's the case, I'm SOL. I know, I'll jump off that bridge when I get to it.
In the mean-time, I get to worry about how much this stupid monitor is going to cost. My best guess would be around at least a thousand. I'll find out soon enough. I love being poor!

Oh, yeah...and I just ate two Oreo's! Ha ha! I hadn't had any chocolate in almost three weeks! I'm not going to go hog-wild, but seeing that cutting out caffeine and artificial sweetener did NOTHING to stop or alleviate the palpitations, I'm going to have these things when I "need" them because it's too damn hard to cut out alcohol PLUS all that other crap. I admit it...I need something. It's either eat chocolate or drink booze. I'm gonna go for the chocolate. :P
Hey Bamboozle,
I had to wear a "Holter Monitor" a few years ago for an irregular heartbeat. I don't know if that's what you're getting but in my case I had to return it after the monitoring period. So if you get the same thing, you probably don't have to buy it. Rent it perhaps?

Chiy! They are sooooooooooo good! Downright sinful! VERY easy to make, too. But beware... one recipe will make over 100 truffles!!
Bam - 223 has a good point. I bet you don't have to BUY it. I hope not, anyway. I'm just glad they're going to finally tell you whether or not you have anything to truly worry about. One step at a time, sweetie.

Hi Bam,
I had to wear the halter for a few days before for my heart palpitations. The palpitations drove me absolutely crazy. They found out I have supraventricular tachicardia, which is apparently harmless, although I used to have panic attacks because I thought I was dying. I have gotten used to them over the years, but find out they are much less noticeable mostly without the alcohol...duh.

These things are scary sometimes…usually more annoying, though. Sometimes it feels like there are two people inside of my chest having a tug of war.
Things worked out ok for me, thanks bam.
In my case, my heart would seem pause or miss a beat and then it would come back with a strong beat. It would happen a few times an hour and was quite annoying and somewhat troubling.
I wore the monitor for I think 24 hours. The doctor said I had some PVCs (premature ventricular contractions I think) and not enough to worry about. They must have been related to drinking as they started to diminish when I stopped and I had been sober a few days before I decided to go to a doctor. They're gone now thankfully.
Wishing you the best!

Bamboozle,
I had the holter monitor test too. The worst part of it for me was not being able to shower during the 24 hours. I usually take a shower in the morning and again at bedtime.
We found out later from a echo-cardiogram I had a very minor condition called Mitral Valve Proplapse. I was given a very small dose of beta blocker and it controls the symptoms. Of course, when I quit drinking, I've had very few episodes. I think just knowing what it is helps me.
Good luck and do keep us posted!
Love,
Lenina

Hi Bamboozle- I was in the ER just 2.5 weeks ago with heart palpitations thinking I was having a heart attack. I had called the hospital advice nurse who told me to call 911 immediately. Fortunately, it turned out to be nothing serious. But it is what led me to this site as I researched on line and found it could be directly related to my drinking. Very scary, but a needed wake up call for me. As I have cut out the booze (8 days, slip and now on day 2) I haven't had any more episodes.
Good luck with your monitor.

Well...I'm having a lot of PVC's and some are trigeminy. I don't know if that's something I should worry about...the doctor is doing his best to get me a referal to a cardiologist. More hurry up and wait. I hope I get to see one (if not, I'll go apesh!t). I'll let you all know. The doctor is supposed to call me back again (but I don't know how soon).
