Just joined this site and just decided to quit drinking...again. I am here because I don't think I can do this alone. I just wanted to join a forum where I can talk to people that are going through the same things I am. So....right now I have a buzz. Tomorrow will be day 1. I hope the rest of you are doing better than me!
You've come to a great place for support and understanding. It is very hard to get and stay sober all by yourself. I found a lot of help in very early sobriety by going to AA meetings. Now I go to my home group meeting once a week and come to this site several times a day. It really helps to know that the members here understand addiction and the problems it can cause.

Hi Plato!
As least says AA is defo worth going to for support too! I am going to alcohol counselling and trying to deal with the underlying reasons i drank too and only got 10 weeks sober under my belt but there are some real vets on this site so i try and visit as often as possible to post and, more importantly, read and get some tips myself!!!
Welcome:-)

Welcome! I quit again this week also.... I been sober for awhile and fell off for 4 days... no buzz for me... I don't get a buzz anymore and I don't like drinking over even the taste of booze... It has been 65 hours since I decided to quit (which was 1 hour after my last mini wine) and I had a couple of rough days but coming here has helped a lot and I feel 90% of my old self today!!!!
Just post a lot here... read alot here.... don't hesitate to get medical help if you need it, though....

This is a great place for that. There are some great people with some great info all over SR. Welcome and stick with it. Day 18 and counting thanks to the support of others going through the same thing..
Hi Plato - we're so glad you've joined us. You're right, it's discouraging and fruitless to try and explain what we're going through to non-addicts. None of my family or friends are alcoholics, and even though they try, there's no way they can relate to the hell I've gone through ("Just say no" and all that....). When I found SR by accident one day, I was still drinking - but the things I read here began to sink in. I wasn't alone any more, no one was judging me, everyone was compassionate and patient. I knew if I stumbled they would help me to my feet again and maybe (gently) point out what I did wrong and what I might try the next time. It worked. I'm almost a year sober, and this after over 25 years. Welcome to your new life.
