Long time no sober.. I'm back, bigger and drunker than before

My first attempt at sobriety was around a year ago.. I made it 100 days. After that I slowly got worse and worse and drank more and more. I graduated from a few benders a week to everyday. Also changed from wine to hard stuff. It's been a wild ride. but I am here again which I believe is a good sign. So I'm raising my cup of coffee and cheering day 1 of many.!

Welcome back, I was in a pretty similar state to you but only managed max 20 days sober. Its just a downward cycle isn't it?

Main thing is you came back

Welcome back!
You have SO much to look forward to!
Whatcha gonna do different this time?
Do you have a support system? Are you going to get involved in a 12 step program or secular recovery?
A beautiful future awaits, as long as you are willing to do the work

Welcome back guy with pie - that's what I want to know, too: what's going to be different this time.
You said cheers to this day 1 of many - I hope I read that wrong and that this is your 'last' day 1, period - it CAN be, you know!

I was cheering sober day 1 of many more to come..!

I'm not quite sure what I will do different this time. I did pretty good the first time I tried.. just went cold turkey for a 100 days. One of the main reasons I failed last time is I stopped keeping myself busy. That may sound kind of weird, but when I get bored I want to drink.

So I will need to pick up one of my hobbies again.. I have plenty.

Welcome back guywithpie. Thanks for the update on what it's like out there. They say it only gets worse never better so I hope you enjoyed it because that's as good as drinking is going to get for you from now one.

I look forward to getting to know you better as we walk this path together.

Edit. - You really should get some f2f support this time.

In my case, it wasn't a matter of boredom & hobbies. I needed a major mental & spiritual shift. Quitting drinking and keeping busy will only keep me sober for so long.

Agreed. I won't have all the answers on how I'm going to be successful.. All i can say at this point is I'm going to be successful. Posting on this board helps a lot, and I spoke with my wife about it and she is willing to help.. (Even though she likes me better when I'm drunk.. nicer.. kinder, funnier).. got some proving to do..

Welcome back GWP. I am glad you made it back. Do you have an aversion to going to AA? I think it would be good for you. I go and it helps me. I wanted to drink or use when I got bored too. I don't tend to get as bored as I did in the beginning. Please keep posting and don't drink NO MATTER WHAT!

Welcome back Guy! I remember you well. I too have been struggling, trying to stay sober while you were gone. This last time, I decided to do recovery with the total support of a 12 step program. I'm putting as much effort into this as I did my drinking. It is working better then I ever imagined. Just some food for thought. How ever you choose to approach it, I wish you success. It is he11 out there IMO, and it doesn't ever need to be that way again.
